Snowshoeing, skiing, paragliding and cross-country skiing on the Gitschberg in South Tyrol

Various Winter Sports in Meransen

Skiing isn’t the only sport practiced on the Meransen plateau. Away from the slopes, there are numerous other ways of exploring this stunningly beautiful landscape. Snowshoe walks through the snow-covered forests lead up to the panoramic summits. Two breath-taking destinations include the Stoanamandln lookout point in Spinges and the Astjoch mountain.

The hiking tours are equally worthwhile; notably the perfectly maintained trails in the pristine Altfasstal Valley and the path from Vals leading to the picturesque Fane Alm where the hut managers delight guests with their local specialties. The way back is on snowshoes or by sled.

Cross-country skiing is doubly rewarding when sporting fun is matched by the marvels of nature. In Meransen there are four cross-country ski tracks: the Altfasstal, the Lobenweg – Bacherhütte track, the Vals circuit and the Rodenecker Alm ski track. The 15 km route from the Rodeneck Alm to the Lüsner Alm pastures is considered one of the best in the region with the awe-inspiring Dolomites as a backdrop.

Those in search of new winter adventures can go paragliding on the Gitschberg and scaling the ice on the Pfunderer waterfall.
